Mshawish is scheduled to return to U.S. soil today after a stint in Dubai. His plane is full of studs, as he’s joined by California Chrome (who won the Dubai World Cup) and X Y Jet (runner-up in the Dubai Golden Shaheen).
Once Mshawish has landed, he will join trainer Todd Pletcher for a freshening at Belmont Park before beginning his summer campaign.
According to Al Shaqab Racing U.S. Racing Manager Bradley Weisbord, Mshawish is in good order following his Dubai World Cup sixth-place finish. It was the first time Mshawish ran 2,000 meters (or almost 1 1/4 miles) since 2013.
“He appears to have come out well,” said Weisbord. “He has been non-stop since Saratoga, running in the Breeders’ Cup, running all winter, and now to Dubai. We plan to give him a freshening, but since he is an older horse and loves his job, we will send him right to Belmont Park to Todd.”
Summer racing plans for Mshawish include the Breeders’ Cup and a race at the Saratoga Race Course. He is expected to retire to stud at the end of his racing career at Taylor Made Farm.
“He will have a full set of diagnostics, and if OK, will target a race this summer with Breeders’ Cup as our goal,” said Weisbord “All races from seven to 10 furlongs are possible (for the summer race). It will be a grade I on dirt.”
