This year’s annual nomination meeting/Awards Dinner of the Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association will take place on December 8th and will be held at Gulfstream Park’s Sport of Kings Theater. It is scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM local time with cocktails, which is then followed up with the nomination meeting, then a buffet dinner, and capped off with the awards ceremony.
The Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association will nominate candidates for their board of directors as well as award Florida Horsemen for their achievements. A couple of the awards to be handed out include Person of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
“This year’s honorees have made countless contributions to our membership and to our industry for many, many years,” said Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association President William “Bill” White. “We celebrate their selfless dedication to the sport, which is the backbone of this industry. Day-in and day-out, rain or shine, their tireless commitment plays a vital role in bringing world-class Thoroughbred racing to the state of Florida.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to H.W. “Salty” Roberts. He is the Race Track Chaplaincy of America founder.
The Person of the Year Award is earmarked for Cliff Hopmans. He has been the Director Horseman Liaison/Stall Manager at Gulfstream Park since 2007.
There will also be Special Recognition Awards handed out to Gulfstream Park outriders who have maintained a safe environment for workouts and live races.
“As a horseman, I am continually inspired by the years of hard work and behind-the-scenes dedication these individuals bring to horse racing year after year,” said White. “It is the FHBPA’s honor to recognize them and hopefully bring their stories to the attention of horse racing fans everywhere.”
