The final preparation stages for Mongolian Saturday, the winner of the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf Spring (gr. IT), and Green Mask, who came in third-place, for the Longines Hong Kong Sprint (HK-I) took place on December 7th.
It was the second work for Green Mask at the Sha Tin Racecourse, which spans 1,200 meters. He ran a half-mile in :47.3 seconds. “Last week I had to give him some whacks to get him going, which I didn’t have to do today. He definitely worked better. It seems they have him ready to go for the big race,” said Jockey Joao Moreira.
Green Mask has placed in four stakes, and last year took home the Paradise Creek Stakes at Belmont Park. He bested Mongolian Saturday’s half-mile practice time, who ran 800 meters in a time of :53.8 seconds.
Mongolian Saturday trainer Ganbat Enebish was short and to the point assessing his practice run: “He behaved himself this morning and everything is good.” It’s been a fantastic 2015 on the track for Mongolian Saturday, either winning or placing in all ten starts this year.
The Longines Hong Kong Sprint (HK-I) is part of a four-pack of group I races that will take place on December 13th at the Sha Tin Racecourse.
In total, the 55 horses will compete, with a combined U.S. $10,708,779 up for grabs. The biggest stakes race of the four can be found in the U.S. $3.2 million Honk Kong Cup, where defending champion Designs On Rome will be back to defend his title.
