Kentucky Derby Betting Championship Revealed

The Kentucky Derby Betting Championship will debut in 2016 at Churchill Downs

Churchill Downs has taken wagering at their most popular event to a whole new level with the announcement of the Kentucky Derby Betting Championship. Set to debut in 2016, the contest offers a $250,000 grand prize to the winner and will be sure to generate plenty of interest. TwinSpires.com will be spearheading the effort in collaboration with the prestigious race track.

Kevin Flanery, the President of Churchill Downs Racetrack released a statement saying, “This exciting live-money handicapping contest is a welcome addition to our Kentucky Derby Week activities. This opportunity is a result of our great partnership with TwinSpires.com, and we’re thrilled at the chance to host and entertain this group of top horseplayers at the home of America’s greatest race.”

“This is an exciting way for the top handicappers to be a part of the most exciting two minutes in sports,” echoed Ted Gay, the president of TwinSpires.com.

The buy in for the Kentucky Derby Betting Championship is $20,000. The first $5,000 of that will be contributed to the massive prize pool, while the remaining $15,000 serves as your bankroll over the two-day event.  All winnings that the player generates throughout the contest are theirs to keep as well. The person who ends the weekend with the highest bankroll wins the contest and the grand prize.

The entry fee also includes seating for the player and a guest, as well as food and drinks.

Registration for the Kentucky Derby Betting Championship has already opened with a $1,000 deposit required. If you plan on attending the first leg of the Triple Crown, there’s frankly no better way to do it. And if you need to track the upcoming contenders at the main event, then the prep race schedule is the first place to look. The key to winning these types of contests is to also have a keen understanding of the preliminary races leading up to the main event.

We will be bringing you plenty of news about the horses to watch in all the races at Churchill Downs on May 6th and May 7th, 2016 so stay tuned.
