Two Kentucky Derby Prep Races November 28th, 2015

Mohaymen Debuting As Early Favourite in Remsen, Second Favourite In KFDW
The Remsen will be the co-main event of Super Saturday at the Aquaduct in New York, and stands as a GR2 stakes race. It is part of the year long circuit known as The Road To The Kentucky Derby 2016, which serves as the prep race for the first leg of the Triple Crown. The two four horses in the early prep races will get 10-4-2-1 points awarded.

So far nine horses have entered the Remsen, but none areseemingly more important than Mohaymen, who enters the field as the odds on favourite. A dominant victory at the Nashua Stakes has primed Mohayman for this race, after posting a blistering time of 1:36:01 over the mile. The Remsen is a 1 1/8 mile race on dirt.

Mohayman is also posting as a 15/1 Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) along with Swipe and Brody’s Curse. The current favourite in the KDFW is Nyquist at 10/1. Saturday’s run at the Remsen will be Mohaymen’s first shot to show what he can do in a longer race and all eyes will be focused squarely on his saddle.

Field for the 2015 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes
The second of the Kentucky Derby Prep Races this weekend is the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, held at Churchill Downs. This GR2 stakes race will feature 14 entrants. Of particular interest will be Rated R Superstar, ridden by Calvin Borel who has won four times at this race, including in 2014 aboard El Kabeir. The Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes is perhaps best known for producing Super Saver, also ridden by Borel, in 2000.

The two favourites for the Jockey Club Stakes include Mor Spirit, who has placed 1st in a mile race and 2nd in a quick, 6 furlong sprint. Airoforce is coming off a heartbreaking loss at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Mile where he was defeated by Hit A Bomb at the line. Prior to that, he cashed in as the Bourbon Stakes winner at Keeneland. He will be ridden by his regular, Julien Leparoux.

The marquee event of Saturday’s “Stars of Tomorrow II” at Churchill downs is set as Race 11, with a post time of 5:35pm EST, and is one of the two Kentucky Derby prep races this Saturday.
