Uncontested Won’t Race Again Until April’s Arkansas Derby

Uncontested, who currently sits in eighth place in the ‘Road to the Kentucky Derby’ qualifying points leaderboard with 11 points, is scheduled to make his next start on April 15 in the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) at Oaklawn Park. That’s the word according to one of his co-owners, Harry Rosenblum.

Uncontested missed a golden opportunity to add ten points and jump to second in the Kentucky Derby points leaderboard as the favorite heading into the Southwest Stakes (G3). However, he finished a disappointing sixth and came away with zero points.

“He’s perfectly fine,” said Rosenblum. “He looks good. We’re tickled with where we are with him now and you’re probably going to see the horse back in the Arkansas Derby.” uncontested

“It was a good field,” Rosenblum continued. “We haven’t lost any confidence in our horse. I think we just draw a line through this race, and congratulations to the horses that finished ahead of us.”

Rosenblum is sending Uncontested down the same path as Far Right, who won the Smarty Jones and the Southwest Stakes in 2015. He also skipped the Rebel Stakes and finished second to eventual Triple Crown champion American Pharaoh.

“It’s the same kind of plan for a different horse,” said Rosenblum. “I’d say we’d like to win the Arkansas Derby here at home, and the horse does well over this track.”

The Arkansas Derby is the second-to-last race in the Kentucky Derby prep race series and awards 100 points to the first-place finisher.
